Darol "Top" Walker

From Darol;

This picture made the front page of the Army Times sometime in the early 60's. The guy watching from the door was then CPT L. B. Mordani, if the spelling is correct. He was in the Indonesian Army at the time and went on to a very high position in their government. I don't know his situation today. He signed the picture "To the toughest GI". I have a copy of this photo at home. I was a buck sergeant at the time on my first tour with the school. This helicopter mock-up is where we first started jumping slack on rappel. We would pull 10-20 feet of rope into the chopper and then hook up and jump out. Our answer to fast roping onto the ground.

From Ralph Jones;

The Indonesian captain observing Darol Walker doing a slack drop; is Leonardus Benjamin "Benny" Moerdani. He rose to become their Armed Forces commander, and later became the Indonesian Defense Minster. He served much of his career with their special forces and commando units. For more info see:

The picture was taken in Feb. 1961. I was on the ground behind and a little to the right of them. He was the target for the snatch patrol. He kicked the hell out of most of the patrol until we finally got him tied up.
