Lt. Col. Bob
Suchke and Jim "Lobo" Bates. This picture was taken in Jan 1990 just
out side the "box" at Torii Station, Okinawa, Japan on the occasion of
my (outgoing) change of command. Jim (LOBO) Bates and I were the only L Co
veterans in the 1st Bn, 1st Special Forces Group and it was a 'special' ceremony
to recognize how far we had both come and the fact we were still serving
together. I admired and respected Jim Bates greatly. I knew he was one
soldier I could always count on, no matter what. The L Co Ranger scroll that we
are holding is one I had made of Philippine mahogany and it is hanging in a
place of honor today in my basement. And Jim, if you get this, you owe me
an email. All the best, brother.
